Job Summary

Enhancing the first generation student’s experience. Club Advisors take an active role in advising the student club/organization. Club Advisor supports the mission of the assigned student activities club or organization; and the expectation of the volunteer assignment – e.g. commitment of 4-6 hours per month for the academic year. Club advisors are volunteers in an unpaid capacity.

The department of Student Activities fully supports the mission and goals of the College of Lake County, and is committed to providing an environment that will cultivate personal growth and development for students and the broader college community. Student Activities staff empower and encourage students by devoting our time to teaching leadership and raising cultural awareness. We serve students through advocacy and retention efforts through social, cultural, and educational programs and services. We work to make community college life a rich experience for all CLC students.

Required Qualification

1. Must pass a criminal background check prior to volunteering and complete mandatory campus security authority (CSA) training on timely basis.

2. An advisor should be a Board approved employee of the College of Lake County. This staff member serves as the primary advisor to the student organization. Exceptions can be made at the discretion of the Director of Student Activities.

3. Advisors are required to attend the various social events of the student organizations they advise.

4. Club advisor work must not interfere with the volunteer’s employment position with CLC.

5. Advisors should be knowledgeable of Check Requests/Purchase Orders and Room Reservation process.

6. Advisors must be at events held by the club/organization or assign a co-advisor or an approved volunteer employee.

7. In the case of an emergency at such an event, the advisor should exercise his/her best judgment and work closely with the CLC Police Department.
